Nancy Swan is a fifth generation Californian who has been painting the world around her since childhood. Accomplished in many mediums, she has been documenting the rapidly changing landmarks of our coastal history in copperplate etchings, watercolors, and ink drawings for the past 40 years. Her award-winning artwork has been exhibited at shows and galleries throughout Southern California and has become a cherished part of international collections.
Nancy was a member of Corona del Mar High School’s first graduating class and attended Orange Coast College and University of California Irvine prior to graduation from U.C.L.A. A self-taught artist, Nancy developed her style by researching the masters. Her copperplate etching technique and choice of materials parallel those of Rembrandt. She has also immersed herself in the age of digital art as a computer graphic designer and illustrator of a children's book, now working on illustrations for a second. During the last five years she has been privileged to study with renowned watercolorist Nita Engle in Michigan and Ted Nuttall from Colorado.
Love of place provides endless inspiration for her work as she seeks to preserve bits of the familiar, snatching scenes from a local landscape and lifestyle that is constantly reinventing itself.
Nancy and her husband Peer have raised two children and reside in Newport Coast, California. Visit the NC Swan Online Gallery
